ABSTRACT

Festivals are cultural activities within the Africa people celebrated annually for different reasons with the use of cultural elements which costume is one of. The significance of diversity and the use of costume in Ine festival of the Issele-Uku people showcases the rich cultural heritage of the people through diverse costumes associated with the celebration. Using the qualitative research method, this researcher observes, through personal participation of the festival celebration, that its costumes promote cultural education, create awareness on their values and also overall aesthetics of the festival. The study observes that costume is an essential component of festival as it gives meaning, cultural identity and aesthetic. Preservation of culture and therefore recommend that the younger generation should be educated on the significance of costume and record such as photographs, videos should be reserved for researchers, tourists and cultural institutions.
