ABSTRACT

The eye is an important organ with a unique function, vision. This function has been shown to be influenced by various physiological factors one of which is a variation in intraocular pressure. Any factor that results in the constriction of blood vessels have an overall effect on the circulatory system. The use of neckties results in some level of constriction of vessels and being a component of formal dressing in banks, bankers have to wear them. Therefore, the need to study how this affects their intraocular pressure is necessary. The aim of this study was to investigate the short-time effect of neckties on the intraocular pressure in male bankers. 50 subjects who met the required the inclusion criteria was randomly selected across banks in Oredo Local Government area, the intraocular pressure before knotting the necktie was measured using a handheld non-contact iCare tonometer and then the tie was knotted in place and intraocular pressure measured after 60 minutes 300 minutes. Data obtained from this study was analyzed using statistical package for Social Scientists (SPSS) version 26.0. It was observed that there was a change in the intraocular pressure after 60 minutes and 300 minutes of knotting the necktie, however there was no statistically significant mean difference in the change in intraocular pressure (p < 0.05).
