ABSTRACT
The study investigated the semantic features of verbs for buying as well as its strict selectional restrictions as exhibited by each verb. The data for research was collected through audio recording as well as participant observation. Data collection was from traders, farmers and aged people who were conversant with the terms for research.
The study succeeded in finding out that the verbs in each class occur in a complementary distribution manner. That is, where one occurs, the other does not. It also recognized the successful use of the theta theory of principles and parameters in the Igbo language.
Recommendation for further study was made especially due to the diversified nature of the Igbo dialects that persistently show differences.
