ABSTRACT
This chapter examined the challenges affecting women's role in sport development in Nigeria. Sport is an enjoyable sporting activity that both male and female could participate in and watch. Thus sporting in most parts of the world are cherished assets, pampered and paid huge sums of money by their clubs. These clubs also ensure that the players are in tip-top physical condition, with all their health needs paid priority attention because they are the reason clubs exist in the first place. While women in sport development in Nigeria have made significant strides, they still face several challenges that affect their roles and opportunities. Adequate financial resources for women's sports development remain a significant challenge. Women's sports programs often receive less funding compared to men's sports, resulting in limited resources for training, equipment, facilities, and competitions. The lack of financial support hinders the growth and sustainability of women's sports initiatives. Women's sports in Nigeria receive significantly less media coverage compared to men's sports.
