ABSTRACT
Women have the capacity to bring about tangible community development, but their roles in the society have been neglected. This study evaluated the Role of Women in Community Development in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria. The study specifically described the socioeconomic characteristics of women in the study area, the value community development activities women engage in, factors that affect the role of women in the study area, constraints to increased participation in the study area, and ways to increase participation of women in the study area. A two-stage sampling procedure was used to select women in the local government, First stage involved a purposive sampling of a total of 4 communities on the basis of proximity to one another in order to reduce heterogeneity in sampling. Second stage involved a random selection of women in the study area to whom questionnaire were administered. Data was collected using primary and secondary tools. The primary data was collected with the use of structured questionnaire and data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The constraint was measured using likert scale type and stated hypotheses were tested with logit regression.
