ABSTRACT

This study examines the role of Humanitarian Organizations, with the UNHCR as a case study, in the rehabilitation of refugees/internally displaced persons, as in the case of North-Eastern region of Nigeria. The alarming rate of territorial disputes and the eventual increase of displaced persons has become a major concern for States and the world at large. The continuous attacks of the Boko Haram sect on the people of Nigeria, especially the North East regions, has caused terrifying rates of homeless and fleeing persons who have become vulnerable and seek a peaceful environment. The UNHCR has stepped into such situations and the victims of Boko Haram attacks are not left out, as they try to provide both basic material amenities as well as mental and psychological programmes that will help the rehabilitation of the refugees/internally displaced persons of the region, despite the arising challenges: they, as in UNHCR, seek to ensure that world peace can be attained altogether.
