ABSTRACTS

This study examined the role of student directors in shaping the creative vision of a theatrical production, exploring how they negotiate the difficulties of bringing a play to life. The study highlighted the important influence directors have on the creative and technical elements of a play, from interpreting the scripts and conceiving ideas to working with actors, designers, and technicians. The aim of the study was investigate and explore the director's role in influencing the creative vision of a theatrical production and how it impacts the overall success of the production, especially in an educational theatre setting so as to boost available literature in the research area. The study focused on student-directed shows in the University of Benin Theatre Arts department, Benin City. To achieve its objectives, the study used survey method, particularly the in-depth interview (IDI) for the collection of the primary data while secondary data was generated through a comprehensive review of relevant literature. Results showed that the director plays a very important role in shaping the creative vision of a theatrical production. The study recommended that acting and directing should not be an elective, but a c compulsory course that should be taught right from 100 level, this is in view that it is a crucial aspect of the theatre.
