THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE PRESERVATION OF NIGERIAN TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL

ABSTRACT

The preservation of the traditional festivals of Nigeria has become an impulse towards its development. This study explores the role of social media in the preservation of Nigerian traditional festivals: Akhe ceremony of the Weppa Wanno people as case study. It is very obvious that due to globalisation, the Cultural Festivals of Nigeria has continued to witness decline and extinction. The primary objective of this study To determine the roles of the Media In preserving Nigeria's traditional festivals. To place a check if the Media has done well in the preservation of Nigeria's traditional festivals. To Investigate the factors responsible for the slow growth and extinction of Nigeria's traditional festivals.To suggest ways of addressing the issue of the fading of our cultural festivals.
