ABSTRACT

The study examined the role of social workers in addressing violence against children in Jubilee Academy Group of Schools in Ovia North East LGA, Edo State. The objective of the study was study was to examine the factors that contribute to violence against children in Jubilee Academy Group of Schools in Ovia North East LGA; to know the consequences violence against children in Jubilee Academy Group of Schools in Ovia North East LGA; to examine the possible solutions to violence against children in Jubilee Academy Group of Schools in Ovia North East LGA and to evaluate the role social workers play in addressing violence against children in Jubilee Academy Group of Schools in Ovia North East LGA. This study employed a descriptive survey design. Sixty questionnaires were handed out to participants within the Jubilee Academy group of schools in Ovia North East LGA. Collected data underwent analysis through frequency counts, percentages, and means utilizing Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24.0. The study's findings indicate that participants concurred on several points: firstly, they acknowledged the impact of parental economic background on violence against children. Secondly, they recognized the influence of parental educational background on such violence. Thirdly, they associated students' feelings of insecurity or fear of attending school with violence against children. The study suggests four key actions: Nigeria should take four important steps to improve its violence prevention efforts: strengthen its child protection system; use the Inspire strategies as a model for addressing both prevention and response to violence; adopt a more strategic public health approach; and concentrate on addressing conditions in four areas.
