SUMMARY

The study has revealed that Primary Health Care facility plays a significant role in the prevention of maternal mortality in Oredo LGA. In other words, there is a significant relationship between the primary health care facility and the prevention of maternal mortality in the study area. From the foregoing, it can be deduced that the majority of pregnant women have knowledge about the availability of primary health facility in the study areas. However, the women should adhere to antenatal instructions, speaking up immediately when they notice any negative sign, get a doctor or midwife to pay attention to them, and seek medical attention when the need arises. Conversely, many of the women sampled in the study area have some knowledge about the danger and threat of maternal mortality. For these women, majority of them believe that not seeking antenatal care services in primary health care facility can lead to maternal mortality. However, a substantial number of the women do not know about the threat and danger for not seeking antenatal care services when pregnant. These women do not know that unsafe health care is risky but most of them still believe in traditional birth attendants.
