ABSTRACT
This research work examined the roles of National directorate of employment and youth employment in Oredo Local Government, Edo State. The National directorate of employment was established to design and implement job creation programmes that will promote attitudinal Change, employment generation and enhance wealth generation in Nigeria. Fundamentally, government needs to place unemployment issues at the top of the agenda especially among youths for National development in realization of the fact that youth employment is a prerequisite for meaningful and sustainable overall national development policies and programmes through the National directorate of employment. However, unemployment rate in Nigeria, specifically among viable and able bodied youth have increased in recent times and it has become a bane on national development. With this, the research tries to identify the various contributions of the national directorate of employment and the extent to which their contributions have combatted youth unemployment in Nigeria with specific to Oredo Local Government, Edo state. Data for the study were collected from primary sources, using questionnaires. Statistical tables and simple percentages were used for the data presentation and data analysis. It was discovered that funding, inadequate equipment and small structural facility have been the bane on the mandate of the agency in Oredo Local Government, Edo state. It was recommended that to bring about progress in the agency's mandate, provision of funds must be adequately provided and spacious training outlet must be available to contain a vast number of participant of the programs of the national directorate of employment in Oredo Local Government, Edo state.
