ABSTRACT
The study examines the role of Ikorodu local government in national development Local governments are vital to the development and governance of any nation, serving as the closest tier of government to the people and acting as a conduit for the delivery of essential services and the implementation of national policies. This study examines the role of Ikorodu Local Government Area in Lagos State, Nigeria, in contributing to national development. The research focuses on the local government's efforts in providing basic infrastructure, promoting grassroots participation, fostering economic growth, and implementing national policies at the local level. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study gathered data through surveys, interviews, and secondary sources. A sample of 600 respondents, including residents, local government officials, community leaders, business owners, and representatives from NGOs, was selected to provide diverse perspectives on the issues at hand. The findings reveal that while Ikorodu Local Government has made significant strides in areas such as infrastructure development and economic growth, its efforts are often hampered by challenges such as inadequate funding, political interference, and limited capacity for effective governance.
