SUMMARY

This study has examined the impact of the hotel and hospitality industry in Benin City, Edo State. The findings of this study show that most Hotel business owners, contribute to the stimulation of the economy and have over time diversified into several businesses like transportation, as well as real estates, which has brought about a reduction of poverty rate in Benin. The industry acts both as an engine of economic development and social force; a. The economic impact of hotels and hospitality in areas of income generation, job creation, diversification, wealth creation, economic growth, and sustainability of the environment cannot be compared to any other sectors of the economy. The findings of this study also show that hotels, in Benin City, have witnessed growth through their expansion into multiple hotel chains at different locations within Benin City, thereby spurring job creations, through direct and indirect employment. Events stimulate attractions and this boosts demand for hotels. This result in high demand for both intra-city abs inter-city transport and leisure services, events. Events of various dimensions, types and classes have become the order of the day, demanding availability of hotel’s structures, resources, technology and expertise to organize. Further more, for hotel business to stay relevant in implementing systems and structures of continuity, the government should e sure a steady rising economy, as a hotel is a growing portion of Benin’s local economy.
