ABSTRACT
This study examines the role of entrepreneurial education in the development of Nigeria. The broad objective is to determine if entrepreneurial education enhances the acquisition of the necessary skills for gainful self-employment. The specific objectives are; to identify the effect of entrepreneurial education on wealth creation; to identify challenges that hinder sound entrepreneurship education in Nigeria; as well to proffer solutions to the identified challenges in the implementation of sound entrepreneurship education programme in Nigerian. Two research questions were raised to guide the study. The research population for the study is drawn from graduates from University of Benin, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Benin. A sample size of 100 graduate from managements sciences were randomly selected from the University of Benin, Benin City. Data was collected through questionnaire, and were analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage. The research hypotheses were tested using the chi-square statistical tool. The findings of the study revealed that entrepreneurship education enhances the acquisition of skills for self-employment and there is significant effect of entrepreneurial education in wealth creation. It was, therefore recommended that the educational sector should be properly funded by government at all levels. Industries should also be involved in financing entrepreneurial programmes in educational institutions in Nigeria.
