ABSTRACT
Many people see book covers regularly but often wonder why they do not attract a potential customer. This prompted the investigation titled “The role of book cover in the marketing and promotion of book”, carried out in the University. The study employed a descriptive survey. There are specific objectives that guided the study and three research questions were answered in the study. The study participants included both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and 20-item five–point questionnaire was administered to 187 respondents, however only 150 was found useful and analyzable. The analysis was done using mean and standard deviation. The study established that book covers is important to the marketing and promotion of books. The study also found that there are some errors that might prevent the book cover from fulfilling its purpose. And lastly, the study revealed that some strategies can actually enhance the design of book covers, so that they can achieve its purpose. Based on the findings of the study, some recommendations were made which include: It is necessary that writers and authors; be exposed to the basic skills that are necessary and needed in designing book covers. It is important that they should solicit the service of professional graphic designers in designing their book covers
