ABSTRACT

This study investigates the “the impact of adult education in promoting financial literacy for women in Ovia north east local government area of Edo State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population of the study consist of seventy-four thousand, nine hundred and eleven women from Ovia North East Local Government of Edo State. The questionnaire was used for collecting relevant information from the respondents. Findings from the study revealed that adult education plays a significant role in poverty alleviation among women through financial literacy. Also, financial literacy through adult education helps women in the smooth management of their business. The study concluded that the importance of adult education and financial literacy at all levels of the nation’s socio-economic strata cannot be overemphasized in view of its enormous benefits especially among women. The successful implementation of adult education through financial literacy programme would guarantee the future economic and social well-being of women by reducing poverty, improving income and facilitating development. Finally, the study recommends that there is need for the government to evolve relevant policies that will encourage the larger proportion of the population to participate in financial markets activities by expanding the various platforms for financial education through adult learning.
