ABSTRACT
The study examined the role of adult education as a tool for Socio- economic development in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. In order to achieve the purpose intended, four research questions were raised. The study adopted a survey descriptive research design. The sampled population of the study was One hundred respondents were randomly selected for the study. The instrument for the study was a questionnaire while descriptive statistics was adopted and the data collected and collated were analyzed using frequency count and percentage.
The findings from the study revealed that Adult Education is a veritable tool in achieving socio economic development in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State as it enabled individuals to update their knowledge, skills and attitude and become more relevant on theirjobs. Adult education programmes also promoted the living standards of the people as participants experienced improved health, acquired employable and self employable skills. The study further showed that there are insufficient providers of Adult Education services in the area, inadequate funding, shortage of qualified manpower, lack of commitment and political will were the challenges facing Adult Education Programmes in Ovia North East Local Government Area.
