THE ROLE OF ADULT EDUCATION AND THE MEDIA FOR THE ERADICATION OF POVERTY IN IMO STATE.

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the Role of adult education and the media for the eradication of poverty in Imo state.

Africa’s countries face a number of obstacles to their continued growth and development, including poverty.Thus numerous programmes to combat poverty have been implemented by Nigeria’s successive governments, but the reality is that the situation of the poor has not improved.

Findings of the study revealed the value of Adult Education and media in reducing poverty in order to sustain development and improve the wellbeing of the people.It was also revealed that the delivery of adult education particularly in Imo state has been bemoaned by some issues identified as administrative problems.This has posed a big challenge to the effectiveness and efficiency of supervisors,directors of centres  and even recipients.it was further revealed that poor welfare of staff and other related maladministrative were also responsible for delivery of literacy programmes in Imo state. Based on the conclusion drawn from the findings, the following recommendations were thereby proffered:Adult literacy programmes should be adequately funded,qualified instructors,supervisors should be engaged, it was also recommended that adequate accommodation should be provided for study centers and proper course materials should also be made available. This will help reduce or rather eradicate poverty entirely particularly in Imo state.
