ABSTRACT
This study focused on the assessment of the rise ofTwitter as a citizen journalism medium and it's impact on the mainstream media. The study basically aimed at Ascertaining how the audience percieve and rely on Twitter and how their reliance on the application as a news medium impacts their perception of the mainstream media, examining if the news content on Twitter is percieved as reliable and factual, how the use of the application impacts audience perception of the mainstream media and to ascertain the the opinion of the audience on if Twitter can ever be an alternative to the mainstream media.
