This academic project, titled "The Representation of Femininity in Selected Nigerian Hip-hop Music," examines the portrayal of femininity in the songs "Madu" by Kizz Daniel and "Cast" by Shallipopi. Van Djik's Socio-cognitive theory of critical discourse analysis serves as a foundational framework for the analysis. Adopting a qualitative methodology, the research employs content analysis to scrutinize the lyrical composition of the songs. The findings of the research were discussed in chapter two and three of the research, which covers the power relations at play in glorifying and assigning important roles to the male gender and reducing the female gender to subordinate and relegated roles. Also, it addresses the various ideologies initiated by the lyrical compositions of the songs, which is believed to be ideologies formed and nurtured in the Nigerian society.
