THE RELEVANCE OF THEATRE MANAGEMENT IN THEATRICAL PRODUCTIONS

ABSTRACT

This research is a study of the relevance of theatre management in theatrical productions with specific reference to two productions: Operation Squander and Battle for Death.The research shows the essentiality of theatre management in theatrical productions. This study's research design employ the survey method; administering questionnaire to 60 respondents, with interview session with 2 theatre managers, data is calculated in simple percentage and presented in tables. This research findings indicates that theatre management involves overseeing various aspects of theatrical productions, facing challenges like unexpected issues and team dynamics, while implementing strategies to ensure smooth operations and successful performances, ultimately emphasizing the importance of effective management. This study concludes that theatre management hinges on the expertise and leadership of the manager, who must effectively utilize resources to fulfill the theatre's goals, including audience engagement, building the theatres image, and maximizing profitability. This study recommend the appointment of properly trained theatre managers in both academic and professional theatres to handle the complex aspects of funding, organizing, and sustaining theatre activities. Additionally, it suggests the importance of educating students about theatre management through seminars, theoretical and practical training to ensure successful future theatre practitioners.
