The Relevance of Medical Social Workers in Central Hospital, Benin City, Edo State

ABSTRACT

This study seeks to investigate the relevance of medical social workers in Central Hospital Benin City Edo State. The study made use of primary sources of data. A sample size of 200 respondents was selected using Taro Yamani sampling technique. Questionnaire was used to elicit information from participants and data was analysed using tables and simple percentages. The study revealed that social workers are very relevant in total recovery of patients which is the main goal of setting up the hospital for patients’ holistic wellbeing. Theory of social learning was adopted in this study. The study recommended the inclusion of social work department and employment of social workers to facilitate the total care of patient and for the total welfare of patients and the wellbeing of the society
