ABSTRACT
Costume is a medium in which we send messages to people ,it communicate about our social, religious, and economical status. As an individual, costume is a medium at which we send messages to general public. The important of cultural awareness cannot be undermined when it comes to cultural costumes of a people. Costume design for cultural purposes is gradually taking another dimension as the way and manner things were done by our fore fathers are now influenced by western civilisation which makes them have little or no value. the primary research method of data collection which entails conducting of interviews with appropriate person for proper documentation of analysis of the study.the findings reveals hat costume is a tool for identification in Benin traditional festival and other ceremonies. It is therefore recommended that relevant authorities, both at the local and state level should encourage the celebration of this festival in the community, by providing fund to run part of it and allowing the citizens to be fully involved to they can understand the traditions of the people as well as appreciates the culture and every elements of the culture.
