The study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the performance of male and female secondary school students in biology in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Three (3) research questions were raised to guide the study.
The method adopted by the researcher is the descriptive survey research design. A review of related literature was carried out. A total of one hundred and twenty students in public secondary school in Oredo Local Government Area constituted the population study sample. The instrument used for gathering data from the selected sample was last term examination results. The reliability of the instrument was not established. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics in form of mean standard deviation and Pearson correlation.
The study revealed that, the male students in the schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State perform below average in Biology second term examination. The female students in public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State performed above average in Biology second term examination. The relationship between the male and female Biology performance is negative and low and that, there is no significant relationship between the performance of male and female students in Biology. It was recommended that; Biology teachers should endeavor to boost positive attitude to both male and female students while teaching (science) biology in schools. Male students should brace up and take this subject seriously. Parents are encouraged to provide the right education they can afford for their children irrespective of gender and should not segregate in terms of the education of their children.
