ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is primarily to investigate the relationship between Principal’s leadership styles and teacher’s job satisfaction in secondary schools in Oredo, Local Government Area of Edo State. Related literatures were reviewed. The population of study was made up of 200 principals and Teaching staffs, from public Senior Secondary Schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.    A total sample of eighty (80) principals and teachers were selected from six (6) schools in Oredo Local Government of Edo State based on Random Sampling Technique. All the schools are public Senior Secondary schools owned by the state Government. The statistical survey research method was employed.. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Findings showed that:  the leadership styles of Principals in secondary schools in Oredo Local Government of Edo State is quite commendable and the relationship between principals and teachers in secondary schools in Benin Metropolis is quite cordial.

It was recommended amongst others that:  Principals should ensure a conducive school climate that facilitates effective teaching and learning and Principals should always endeavor to maintain a cordial relationship with their teachers as this enhances the teachers, psychologically and puts them in the right mood for work. The principals should also be of assistance, where necessary.
