ABSTRACT

This study examined the relationship between employee engagement initiatives and organizational performance in the Nigerian oil and gas sector. The study investigated the relationship between; employee recognition and reward program and organizational performance, training and development opportunities and organizational performance, regular feedback and communication channels, and organizational performance, and flexible work arrangements and overall organizational performance within the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company/First Hydrocarbon (NPDC/FHN), OML 26 Joint Venture. The study adopted the Survey research design, and data was collected using a structured questionnaire from 200 respondents. Descriptive analysis was used to summarize the data, while Pearson’s correlation analysis was used to draw inference on the phenomenon studied. The result from the inferential statistics revealed that there was statistically significant relationship between employee recognition and reward program, and organizational performance in NPDC/FHN OML 26 JV. Secondly, the study found out that there was statistically significant relationship between training and development opportunities, and organizational performance in NPDC/FHN OML 26 JV. Thirdly, a statistically significant relationship between regular feedback and communication channels, and organizational performance was found in NPDC/FHN OML 26 JV. Lastly, the study found out that there was a statistically significant relationship between flexible work arrangements and overall organizational performance in NPDC/FHN OML 26 JV. The study concluded that the organization needs to maintain the amount of resources and emphasis dedicated to developing employee recognition and reward program, training and development opportunities, flexible work arrangements, and regular feedback and communication channels, because of the benefits they stand to gain.
