ABSTRACT
This study investigated the prospects and challenges of theatre management in University of Benin. The objectives used for the study are: to examine the challenges of the theatre management in University of Benin theatre; to examine the prospects of the theatre management in University of Benin theatre; and to proffer solutions to the challenges of theatre management in University of Benin theatre. Three (3) research objectives were raised for the study. The study adopted the descriptive and qualitative study research design. The instrument for data collection was a well-structured oral questions. It was built around the research objectives by the researcher and validated by the supervisor. Data collected were presented. The major findings of the study are as follows: educational theatre in Nigeria face a lot of challenges that has militated against its production process over the past decades. Even with the overwhelming prospect of the educational Theatre in Nigeria, the challenges faced have however reduce the potential and the prospect of theatre production in Nigeria. It is very important to state that educational Theatre can be a source of revenue generation, skill development centre, job creation and a host of other advantages which when maximized can bring about increased development in the country. Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are made: government should ensure that University theatres are adequately funded so that it can be effective in its production processes; the school management should ensure that the educational theatre in University of Benin is conducive for audience as this will help in boosting the image of the educational theatre among students in the University of Benin.
