ABSTRACT
This research explores the potential for smart building development in Nigeria, focusing on the awareness among professionals in the built environment, technological readiness, and driving factors. A survey research design was employed, targeting 190 respondents from three professional bodies: Civil Engineers, Architects, and Estate Surveyors & Valuers in Benin City. The sampling technique for this case study included purposive sampling for civil engineers and total enumeration (census) for both architects and estate surveyors and valuers. The study utilized descriptive statistics and mean item score for analysis. The study revealed the following key findings: Professionals in the built environment exhibit a high level of awareness regarding smart buildings, Nigeria faces challenges in technological and infrastructural readiness, particularly in providing a reliable power supply, which is essential for smart building development.
