ABSTRACT
The core objective of this study is to evaluate the extent to which online shopping platforms such as JIJI and JUMIA,has been used to ease the stress involved in shopping, the challenges, the percentage of the population that trust the services of these online shops. The study was anchored on the agenda settings theory and development media theory. The survey research method was adopted. To this end, 100 copies of the questionnaire were administered to students in the University of Benin, Ekehuan campus. It was discovered in the study that online shopping platforms is capable of making an impact in the purchasing pattern of consumers by providing a variety of products with different prices based on the needs of the consumer also offering swift delivery services, price discounts and even bonuses to loyal customers. The study therefore recommends that JUMIA and JIJI should improve on its services and their weaknesses to encourage patronage if it must completely eradicate the negative notion of consumers on online shopping and corruption. This can be achieved by passing across useful information about the products or services offered to concerned publics via their online shopping platforms like JUMIA and JIJI, getting and utilizing feedback from the people, as well as sensitizing and mobilizing the public to engage in online campaigns and discussions geared towards eradicating corruption, theft and inferior products that is sold online.
