ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate the problems of teaching English as second language in Nigeria. There have been decline in the teaching of English in Nigerian secondary schools. Therefore, the study was carried out to find out the imminent factors responsible for the decline of English language teaching. The study employed descriptive survey. The population of the study consisted of ten secondary schools incapable local government area of Delta state, Nigeria. The simple random sampling technique was employed in selecting fifty teachers that were selected from 10 secondary schools. The instrument used for collecting data from the respondents is the questionnaire and it was analyzed using simple percentage.
