Summary
The study was carried out to know the social causes and impact of inadequate basic facilities in University of Benin. The general introductory aspect shed more light on the importance of basic facilities in every aspect of human life, education included.
Different scholarly works on this issue were reviewed to broaden and add knowledge concerning the topic. Also, two theoretical works were used to view the study. Using primary source of data collection obtained through survey of students from the faculty of social sciences in the University of Benin, it was revealed that the majority of the student from the faculty finds the basic facilities available in the school as being inadequate and they think it is caused majorly by corruption and mismanagement of funds. The study also revealed that a vast number of students feel very bad whenever they are in class with inadequate facilities, while some also admits that this situation affects their academics.
In addition, this study shows that majority of the students do not see any obvious measures taken by the school authority to ameliorate this situation of inadequacy and lastly, a large majority of the respondents suggested the cultivation of a good maintenance culture with regular supervision of those put in charge and some other measures as a way of curbing the situation.
