ABSTRACT
The choice of this topic title: The Problems and Prospects of Privatization on Government Parastatals was aimed at examining the problems and prospect (positive or negative) of such policy on the Nigerian economy. Over the years the growth of public sector activity was not accompanied by sustained economic growth at the rate anticipated by the planners. Most of these government parastatals suffered staggering losses thereby becoming a major source of heavy external borrowing. Infact, they failed to meet the set goals. To tackle the problems the programme of privatization was introduced in 1998, although its implementation was not accomplished until the early 1990s. in view, of the above, this study is geared at impacting the policy of privatization with particular interest on the effect of the policy on the efficiency of government parastatals. Also necessary recommendations and the minimization of the negative effect were also made.
