ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to assess the prevalence and determinants of Teenage pregnancy among female students in Ovia North East LGA. Two research questions guided the study. Literatures related to this study was reviewed.
A descriptive survey research design was employed in carrying out the study. The population for the study was 50, which comprises of total female Students in Calvary cross academy. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentage.
The findings revealed that negative effect of social media on Female Secondary School Students varies, that is, not every Students exposed to Media is a victim of Teenage Pregnancy, in other words; the exposure of Media is not a general Determinants of Teenage Pregnancy. Based on the study, it was concluded that Secondary School Students' reason for indulging in Teenage Pregnancy differs, for example, according to the study, it was deducted that most Teenagers fall victim of Teenage Pregnancy due to lack of proper Sex Education at home and some fall victim due to poverty while some was due to their religion belief. In line with the findings, the following recommendations were made; the parents of the adolescents should be provided with information and support that will help their children into adult hood, Encourage awareness of sexual abuse and training to identify and counsel youths subjected to sexual violence. Also, Parents should provide the basic necessities for their female children especially, in other for them not to be influenced due lack of basic amenities and peer pressure.
