ABSTRACT

This study examined the prevalence of play activities in nursery schools in Egor LGA. To guide this study, five research questions were raised. The total of 50 respondents who are teachers that are made up of both public and private school were used for the study.

The research instrument used was a Questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed  using mean, standard deviation, independent sample t-test and ANOVA. The findings revealed that the play activities prevalent in nursery schools were Imaginative play, Constructive play, Socio-dramatic play, Outdoor play, Sensory play. The study further revealed that outdoor play has the highest play prevalence while imaginative play has the lowest prevalence and that there's a significant difference in the prevalence of play activities based on the qualifications of the teacher.

Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that there's a need for government, private bodies, and public institutions to offer financial support and resources to enhance play-based learning in nursery schools. This includes providing funding for play materials, playground equipment, and professional development for teachers to effectively incorporate play into the curriculum.
