ABSTRACT
Julie Okoh's In Our Own Voices represent the images of battered women who arise to change their story, Okoh uses the play to demand for change and insist that society honour the treaties signed by various government to redress women position and negative situation. Hence the main objective of this study is to assess the predicament of women who are face with discrimination and patriarchal oppression, sexual exploitation, and gender inequality in Nigeria. This study is analyzed through the use of primary research drawing data from the play (in our own voices).Women rights are perpetually compromised and violated by the laws and cultures of human societies, making it exigent for women to cry out against socio-cultural practices militating against them. Gender and social inequalities in the Nigeria society have rendered its women vulnerable and susceptible to subjugation and various forms of exploitation. However, bearing this in mind, this paper adopts the feminist perspective in its identification, and exploration of the three major forms of women’s exploitation - domestic violence, gender inequality, and sexual exploitation Women rights are perpetually compromised and violated by the laws and cultures of human societies, making it exigent for women to cry out against socio-cultural practices militating against them.
