ABSTRACT

Slangs play a very important role in today's society, as young generations are rapidly infusing it into their vocabulary. In this study, the writer discusses the pragmatic analysis of some selected slangs used among Generation Z (Gen Z) students in Uniben. The writer uses a qualitative descriptive method, where she describes one by one, words, phrases and acronyms of the data that was gathered. The data for this study was collected from written interactions such as social media posts, comments and replies from online social media platforms such as Tiktok, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook,  and Twitter. The theoretical framework applied was connotative and denotative analysis. The total number of data that was collected and used for this study is one hundred and twenty slangs. The writer also grouped the slangs according to their features observed. The writer selected and analyzed twenty of the slangs which consists of one words, phrases and acronyms. The finding reveals that the digital age accelerates slangs creation or extinction, and new slang terms emerge very fast on social media platforms and also spread quickly.
