Abstract

This study was to evaluate the place of infrastructure in the promotion of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Edo State. This was informed by the deplorable state of infrastructure in the society, unemployment and the poor performance of SMEs and their business activities.

A descriptive research design using 25 randomly selected registered operators of SMEs in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area in Edo State. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics while formulated hypothesis were tested using chi-square. Results from the data analysis indicated that infrastructure plays a role in the promotion of business activities of SMEs.

It was recommended that provision of adequate infrastructure will encourage private sector participation in nation building and also guarantee success of SMEs which will boost the economy, and also effort towards providing constant electricity should be made a top priority to also promote activities and operations of SMEs and in the long run reduce unemployment.
