ABSTRACT
The study is focused on the perception of residents of Oredo community, Benin city, towards the compulsory media campaign of COVID 19 vaccine intake in Edo state. The objectives of the study were to ascertain whether residents of Oredo community are aware of media campaign of the compulsory COVID19 vaccination intake in Edo state, to determine the factors that influences the perception of residents of Oredo community towards the compulsory media campaign of COVID 19 vaccine intake in Edo state and to find out the attitude of residents of Oredo community towards media campaign of COVID 19 vaccine in Edo state. The survey research method was used to gather the data used for the study. Findings of the study revealed that media campaign doesn't influence residents of Oredo to collect COVID-19 vaccination. The findings also revealed that residents of Oredo community, Edo state have a neutral attitude towards media campaign of COVID 19 vaccine in Edo state. However, fake news and fear are major factors that influences the perception of Oredo residents towards media campaign of compulsory COVID 19 vaccination. The researcher therefore concluded that media should deviate from it's dysfunctional role of spreading fear while trying to inform the general public about COVID 19 vaccination in Edo state and Nigeria. She recommended that fake social media accounts be eliminated and platform policing should be employed to curb the spread of fake news and misinformation on social media.The researcher also recommended that social media users should confirm sources of health information published on the internet from the mainstream media and reputable health bodies like the World health organization (WHO).
