Social media has become an integral part of modern society, with the vast majority of people using various social media platforms. The use has permeated all aspects of daily life, including academic pursuits. In recent years, the impact of social media on the academic performance of undergraduate nursing students has been a subject of much debate. This descriptive cross sectional study investigated the impact of social media on academic performance of undergraduate nursing students. Data was collected from 177 nursing students randomly selected from 300-500 levels students in a tertiary institution in Edo State using self administered questionnaires. The result was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) and presented in percentages, mean and standard deviation. More than half of the participants (n=115; 64%) reported that the social media has a negative effect on their academic performance.
