ABSTRACT

The study was carried out to determine “the perceived impact of skills acquisition programmes on the socio-economic empowerment of youth in Egor Local Government area of Edo state”. Five research questions was raised to guided this study. The total population used for this study were all the youth in Egor Local Government Edo State who have acquired one skill or the other and already making use of the acquired skill to earn a living to support themselves and family. The sample size selected for this study was one hundred (100) youth who have acquired a skill and currently using that skill to earn a living for his/herself in Egor Local Government Area. Primary sources were used to acquire the study's data. In order to gather the necessary information, a structured questionnaire was used to generate the primary data. The participants were given copies of a standardized questionnaire, and they were asked to rate each statement on a likert scale using an objective response. The researcher distribute the questionnaire personally and wait to collect the questionnaire. The purpose of this is to ensure the instrument is prompt response from the respondents and to prevent chances of data loss.SPSS is the statistical tool that will be used for the analysis of the data and simple percentage (%) is used in the presentation and analysis of data gathered. The data collected will be organized into frequency tables and these will be analyzed using percentages. The following recommendation were made: There should be a continuous assessment of the skills acquisition programs offered by Egor LGA to ensure that they are relevant, effective, and responsive to the needs and interests of the youth. There should be increased investment in entrepreneurship training and mentorship to equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed to start and grow their own businesses. There should be a focus on developing skills that are in high demand in the local economy, such as vocational training in areas like construction, agriculture, and hospitality.
