ABSTRACT

The study was to investigate the perceived effects of teenage pregnancy among female secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State. Three research questions were raised to guide the researcher. Various literatures were reviewed to the study.

Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study is of all 6,946 secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The   test re-test method was used for the study, the reliability was 0.75 using Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient. The sample size for the study was 376 students. They were selected by the multi stage sampling technique. The study utilized a validated questionnaire that was designed by the researcher.

From the data collected in the study, the effects of teenage pregnancy among female secondary school students include; Sexually transmitted diseases, social stigma, premature delivery, school dropout and death.
