THE PERCEIVED EFFECTS OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES IN PREGNANT WOMEN IN EKIADOLOR PRIMARY HEALTH CENTER

ABSTRACT

The study was aim to examine the perceived effect of Gestational Diabetes in the pregnant women in Ekiadolor primary health center. Gestational Diabetes Mellitus is known to be  the Diabetes that occurs during pregnancy and possesses as a threat for both mother and child. The significance of  this  study is that the study is about  the perceived  effects of gestational diabetes on pregnant women will be extremely beneficial to pregnant women in Edo state in the sense that it will educate them on how to avoid gestational diabetes and for those who are hereditary, healthcare  providers will be able to manage them until delivery time. The target population were women attending primary  healthcare center in Ekiadolor in Egor LGA.

A descriptive survey research design used to select about one hundred and forty  three( 143) Respondents using random sampling technique. The main instrument for data collection was questionnaire which consist of (21) items. Data was summarized by sample percentage, frequency table. From the results of findings, it revealed that women attending Ekiadolor primary health care center are aware of the perceived effect as majority of them agreed that it can lead to  cesarean section for mother, and along with their positive attitude , most of them engage in preventive practices inorder to manage or prevent Gestational Diabetes. It is therefore Recommended that maternal and fetal health care programmes should be initiated     within the outside primary for the awareness of all, especially pregnant women in the society at large.
