THE PERCEIVED EFFECTS OF DEPRESSION ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMACE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This project examined the perceived effects of depression on the academic performance of Under graduate students in University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. The objectives of this work will be analyzed on the following: to discover causative factors of depression and how it affects under- graduate students in the University of Benin, Benin City, Understand the nexus between depression and students’ academic performance in the University of Benin, Benin City, Identify intervention(s) that could be taken to curb the increasing rate of depression among university students in the University of Benin, Benin City, Ascertain the socio- psychological effects of depression on the academic performance of students in University of Benin, Benin City. This study adopted the structured questionnaire as the instrument of data collection; the questionnaire was made up on twenty questions drawn from the research questions. The method of data analysis was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Simple descriptive statistics such as percentage and tables.
