ABSTRACT

This research examines the nexus between governance quality and the quality of life in Nigeria through an empirical investigation between the period of 1989 to 2022. The main objective of the study is to determine the effect of governance quality on quality of life in Nigeria. The study made use of secondary data collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statistical bulletin and the World Development Indicators (WDI). The variables used were literacy rate, corruption, government expenditure on education, government expenditure on health, inflation and foreign exchange rate. The ARDL co integrated analysis was employed as a method of data analysis. The study reveals that corruption has a positive impact and is statistically significant on the quality of life may be the outcome of someone utilizing public monies for personal expenses, which has somehow affected people's quality of life. Government expenditure on education and government expenditure on health has a negative impact and is statistically insignificant on the quality of life because these places are not actively governed while inflation and foreign exchange rate has a positive impact and is statistically insignificant on the quality of life. The study concluded that governance quality in Nigeria is majorly affected by various factors such as corruption, inflation e.t.c., as these factors also influence the quality of governance. The study recommends that government polices and actions should be implemented in areas such as education, health, infrastructures and other areas which enhances the quality of life of the Nigerian citizen.
