Abstract

This paper explores the pressing need for a recalibration of cultural and creative art curriculum, with a particular emphasis on the inclusion of drama as a crucial component. The objective of this research is to shed light on the often-overlooked role of cultural and creative art especially the drama arm in fostering creativity, cultural understanding, and critical thinking skills among students. A comprehensive review of existing literature and interviews with school management was conducted to gather insights. Findings from these analyses indicate that integrating cultural and creative art and the drama arm into the school's curriculum enhances student’s cultural awareness, promotes creativity, and improves their overall academic performance. We also found out that educators are keen to embrace these changes but face challenges in implementing them due to resource constraints and lack of trained cultural and creative art practitioners to take these subjects in schools. This study thereby recommends that cultural and creative arts curriculum especially the drama should be given much importance as other core subject.
