ABSTRACT

This research examined media as a means of advocacy and promotion for women’s rights using the documentary “Miss Representation” as a case study. This research exposed the misogyny in the media and politics. “Miss representation” is a collection of interviews of prominent women in the society, speaking about their struggles and the discrimination they face because of their gender. Responses to the interview in the said documentary was used in discussing and analyzing the ways women’s rights can be highlighted and achieved through the right use of the media. Women from time immemorial have always had to work twice as hard as men in any field to succeed. That being said, their struggles and hard work should not be undermined and swept under the carpet. Every avenue should be used to support and advocate for their basic rights in the society especially the media as it is a significant part in forming popular assessment and can be utilized to spread information to a large audience ,teach individuals on certain topics and raise awareness.
