Abstract

The one-parameter Topp-Leone distribution is a lifetime distribution used in modeling datasets with bounded support. Many generalizations of the distribution have been introduced in literature due to its unique feature of exhibiting a bathtub hazard rate property. However, there are situation where the classical distribution and its generalizations may fail to provide a good fit. In this thesis, we employ the Marshall-Olkin method of generalization to develop an extension of the one-parameter Topp-Leone distribution. Mathematical properties of the proposed distribution were derived and the maximum likelihood estimation method was used to estimate the unknown parameters of the proposed distribution. Finally, two lifetime datasets defined in a unit interval were used to illustrate the flexibility of the proposed distribution. Result obtained revealed that the proposed distribution is an appropriate model for analyzing datasets with bounded support
