ABSTRACTS

This study investigates the making of the monarch of Olomu kingdom which goes by the name Ohworode. This has become necessary in view of the fact that in spite of the glamour and popularity of the ceremony, there is paucity of literature on it .The study adopts the analytic cum historical research design. Data were collected through primary and secondary sources. The findings from analyzed data include: that the position of the Ohworode in Olomu kingdom is not hereditary but rotated among the two original ruling houses of Uhurie and Umughoro /Oghoro in Olomu kingdom. Furthermore, Christianity had brought a lot of changes to the culture and tradition in Olomu kingdom. The significance of Ohworode in Olomu kingdom is very high, this is due to the way he is honored and regarded among his subjects. Also, modernity has brought a lot of changes in the worship of the Ohworodo deity. Arising from the findings, some recommendation and contribution were made which include: proper documentation should be done on the events that surround the Ohworode deity as information on it is based on oral tradition; Ohworode of Olomu kingdom should endeavor to amplify certain cultural heritage that assist in preserving and passing the culture, tradition and value of the kingdom to the next generation. The current practice of sacrifying cows at the burial of the Ohworode instead of human beings should be encouraged and upheld in this 21centuries.
