THE LEVEL OF SOCIALIZATION AMONG KINDERGARTEN PUPILS IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study investigated the level of socialization among Kindergarten Pupils in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. Five research questions were raised and answered. The study adopted the descriptive survey design method and instrument for data collection was a vividly detailed questionnaire. A total of 80 respondents who are parents of Kindergarten Pupils in Oredo Local Government Area formed the sample of the study. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage. The findings revealed that the level of socialization among Kindergarten Pupils in Oredo Local Government Area is high. The findings also revealed that majority of the respondents demonstrated that there is a difference in the level of socialization among Kindergarten Pupils based on location. Other findings also revealed that there is a difference in the level of socialization among Kindergarten based on sex of Pupils, parents educational background and the age of Kindergarten Pupils in Oredo Local Government Area. Based on the findings, it was recommended that activities that encourage cooperation, communication and empathy should be organised by school in order to improve the level of socialization among Kindergarten Pupils. An environment where children can interact with their peers should be created by the teachers and parents. Positive social behaviours should be encouraged. Teachers should demonstrate and explicitly teach social skills like empathy, cooperation and communication.
