Summary

The aim of the study was to investigate the level of knowledge of modern methods of family planning among women of childbearing age in Afiesere community. Also, the study attempted to find out their attitudes towards modern methods of family planning. Lastly, the study seek to know whether educational status or religious affiliation influence the knowledge and attitudes of these women of childbearing age towards modern methods of family planning. To guide this, various literature were reviewed. The descriptive survey design was used for the study. The population of the study consisted of all the 427 antenatal and postnatal patients in Afiesere Community Primary Health Center. The sample size comprised of all 97 patients that have given birth to at least four children. Therefore a census of the sample size was used for the study. The research Instrument used for this study was a self-made questionnaire titled: Knowledge and Attitudes of Women of Childbearing Age Towards Modern Methods of Family Planning in Afiesere Community, Ughelli North LGA, Delta State. The research instrument was validated by the project supervisor along with two lecturers in the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education, University of Benin, Benin city. Data was analysed using basic descriptive statistics of frequency count and 53 percentage for the research question raised while hypotheses was tested using Chi-square at 0.05 alpha level of significance.
